Man jailed 9 months for stealing metal item

The two men were stainless steel specialist and the last four months of last year were especially busy. One of the men, was jailed for 9 months after he admit to eight charges of theft involving $25,300 worth of items.Between September and December last year, they scoured areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Bedok and and woodlands in a lorry. They removed assorted stainless steel items from various sites and sold these as scrap metal for about $3000.

Blast hit India courthouse

A series of near simultaneous blasts on Friday outside courts in three Indian cities left at least 13 people dead and more than 40 wounded in what the police described as a terror attack on lawyers. Nine people were killed, including three lawyers, in the holidest Hindu city of Vatanasi and four more people died in Faizabad. The attack came a week after the Uttar Pradcidedesh bar council decided not to defend Islamist militants facing charges in the state.

5 Singaporeans missing in Cambodia

Five members of the Singapore national dragon boat team are missing, feared drowned, and 17 others were hospitalised after their boat capsized on Friday during Cambodia's annual water festival river race. The mishap occured late in the afternoon on the first day of the races, which draws millions to the capital Phnom Penh. The Singaporean's boat capsized on as the crew of 22 were rowing back to the starting line, at the end of the Cambodia Asean Traditional Boat Race, in which 10 teams competed.

Budget S'pore-KL ait travel to take off in February

Travellers flying between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur for next year's Chinese New Year holiday will have more,and cheaper, options. From February, Singapore's and Malaysia's low-cost carriers will be able to operate a total of four daily return flights for the first time on the much-in-demand route. All the restrictions on this sector will be lifted from from Dec 1, 2008, in line with Asean's goal to remove all restriction on passengers flights between capital cities.
