Organising
Planning & Organising is very important..
Planning
i) You must have a task list on what you want/have to do for the month in order to finish your homework or to prepare yourself for exams.
ii) Know what is important , what is not important.
Planning
i) After end of the day or come back from school, take 10 mins to plan what you want to do for the day
ii) End of the day, remember to pack up your table.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filing and Organising
i) This is important
ii) If cant do daily, do it every friday before you start playing computer gams.
Help
i) As usual, help is available anytime. You are surrounded by people who are always willing to help. All you need to do is to ask.

Playing comp again during weekday
Swee Fong discovered that he plays the computer in the weekday...
Very disappointing...
We keep our part of the bargain and let him play fully on friday...
Yet his is a repeated time that he was caught playing computer during normal weekdays..
Comment
i) Again, Leonard, you are cheating yourself...
ii) Whilst it is enjoyable, you must know when to do something and when not to ..
iii) If you need help, let us know..
iv) But if you spend time trying to get a chance to play and so on, then you are just cheating yourself..
v) Few years time when you look back, you will regret it. If you dont believe, next time if you have a chance, go talk to your Uncle, or others who are doing menial job. Ask them what is their educational level, and ask them whether they regret not studying higher..

2009 Mid Year Exam
He had a fever on the friday...
Doctor give him couple of days MC..
He was actually quite ok, but come from the angle that he doesnt want to take the Additional Maths exam on Monday..
On friday, I give him the time to rest, but he insists on his friday night comp games..(even though i told him he must go for his exams) ..
So he wasted his friday and wasnt serious on his saturday also...
Usual comments
i) Not enough time to study...
Comments
Even for his exam, he is not willing to put in his efforts.
Yet he knows he has not been consistent all the time, he needs whatever time to study
Once exam is over, you cant get him to study...
SO he dont study consistnetly before exam, he doesnt want to burn the midnight exam before the exam..
Even a genius also wont do well.., much less him...
Leonard , think about it....
Now that you are in Sec 3, you only have 7 more years of study life to graduating..
If you dont work hard for this 7 years, you will suffer for the next 40 years.!!!
Every successful person pays a price for getting there...
For eg, you mentioned about Leeza studying so hard...well, she gets 6As..

Role models - Who you choose is important
ROle models
- In life, it is all up to you..
- Some will look at the most outstanding person, and follow him, see how he study, what he does to study well ...
- Some will want to be lazy, reference another lazy person and ask why he should study or work so hard. Even if they reference a outstanding person ie Justin, he will only talk about how much time Justin spent playing computer games etc...
Outcome
- If you choose the lazy boy hwo much better can you do then him ?
- If you choose a outstanding boy and only note down how much time he spent playing, what do you think will be the outcome...
- Adam Khoo succeeded, recovered by choosing good role models.
- So you choose a good role model, and note why he is good . Learn the good things from him and not the bad things.
Remember
- You make your own choices
- You decide who you want to follow..it is definitely useful to have a good role model
- You decide how far you want to go ..

answer regarding post
ai)For dirting the basin and making it oily. Also rising voice at mummy
ii)quite frequently
iii)no
iv)not very fair.Firstly regarding the noodle issue, i was never taught. After meals I either put the bowl beside the sink, or the bowl with left over noodles in the sink since i was young at home and at popo house and there was never a issue. Regarding "using the table clothe to clean the basin" it was noodles that was in the basin and i was just using the clothe to pick it up instead of my bare hands, it has nothing to do with spreading the oil. Also the floor was not oily with oil droplets and instead milo power and I do not see anything wrong with using the clothe to wipe the stain before washing the clothe because I was taught to do that in the past and when in scout(during camp)that is how it is being done to clean the stains in the canteen.Regarding shouting at mummy the sentence that i shouted was "I dont know how to clean lah" which is a matter of fact because at the moment mummy said that using the table clothe was wrong and i didnt know of any other way to do it resulting in me getting agitated and eventually shouting. After that i got whack, i dont see anything wrong that i have done in this particular incident except for perharps putting the noodle in the sink, though i admit that the incident at the hotel was my fault.
v)I have a bad habit of not admitting my mistake and instead deny it.I do not really know how to improve it but i will try to admit my mistake if i feel that i am in the wrong in the future
vi)Not admitting my mistake when i have done something wrong. Some of the possible negative things that my brothers might learn are messing up the whole place, not admitting their mistake and instead denying it.
vii)This is personal bad habit and attidude since young and it does not have anything to do with my computer time.I cannot think of anyway to improve currently but shouting at me is the wrong definetly a wrong approach because i will probaly get angry and shout back.Instead perharps you can tell me nicely and perhaps impose a penalty if i do not do it immediatly instead of shouting.
viii)You can continue locking the com up.I am fine with playing only during the weekends because i have been doing that since young.I also dont fancy playing on the weekday because the acer com lag crap and due to busy schedule during the weekday i wont even have time to play even if u didnt lock the com up.And even if you are on leave or on the weekend you wont allow me to play anyway except on the playtime allocated so this does not consent me at all.
B)For the remaining holiday plan i will be improving on my physics and E maths. I will do 1 chapter of longman physics examples, test youself and questions daily. And will ask you those question i dont know at night for E maths i will need ur help to assign me pratice question from each chapter daily like what u have done.Or i will just pick the odd number of each chapter depending on your prefrences.

18th June - How a small issue when not done properly become a big issue
1) Bought wan tan noodles for him to eat.
2) when came back, SF was upset as he seem to have thrown his noodles on the basin.
3) the floor was also oily with droplets all over the kitchen floor.
4) when confronted, leonard raised his voice arguing with the mother. Took the table cloth to wipe the noodles , which make SF even more upset. (concern that the maid will subsequently take the cloth and wipe other areas, spreading the oil. Leonard responded saying that he dont know.
5) took the cane and give him a whack.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What he should learn
i) There would be no issue if he does what he has always been taught. ie use a tissue paper, wipe off the noodles into the rubbish bin . That is why he must learn to do things the first time right. However he will never be able to do so , if he is not bothered about how it impacts others.
ii) This is not a simple issue of cleaning up the wan tan noodles. This is an issue of constantly trying to do things right the first time in life, else he will forever be spending time on something else, always ending up last in life or cause people to be upset with him because of his self-centeredness. He will end up with no friends and life would really be miserable in future.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
See what are the repercussions of not doing something so simple . All he had to do , was to make sure he do things properly in the first place. Example :
i) he dirty the basin, make it oily.
ii) the basin can get stuck.
iii) he uses the table cloth to clean the noodles from the basin. (more like spreading the oil ?)
iv) when his stupid maid uses the cloth to clean up, she will be spreading the oil all over.
v) despite that, he dares to raise his voice at his mother .
vi) his excuse was, he didnt know how to clean up !!
vii) as usual, very upset with his answer. he was taught to clean up the bowl after eating, but he doesnt. this kind of thing dont need teaching. So long as he thinks for others, he wont do what he does. In any case, when people teach him, he dont bother to learn or do ie clean the bowl. Then when it comes to new scenario, say he wasnt taught.
viii) similar to lessons. When you try to teach him during school time, he ignore. claims to busy to learn. during school holidays, ask him to plan, to make up for weak subjects , he refuse to . All he cares about is computer games (despite doing badly). So he refuse to buck up during school time, refuse to buck up during holiday time. then when is he going to study ??
viii) the night before at the hotel was a similar issue. go to his brother's hotel room. eat bread, but leave scrumbs all over the floor. When asked to clean up, again he refused. Even when i ask him to , again he refused. At the end of the day, i gave up, but his poor mother has to pick up for him.
ix) When he as elder brother dont clean up, why should his younger brothers do so. In fact, his brothers are a lot more careful and considerate than him currently.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Something for him to think about
a) Blog down why i am upset with him. Answer the following :
i) Why am i making a big fuss over the whole issue ?
ii) Does he sees similar incidents where by not doing things properly, he causes more problem for himself later on ?
iii) Does it take a lot to do things right the first time ? ie the above incident
iv) Am i justified in scolding him or have i been unfair to him ?
v) Does he realise that whenever he does something wrong, he gets people even more upset with his answers or because he raises his voice ? Is he so difficult for him to admit to his mistakes and tell how he will improve in future ?
vi) From his brother's perspective, what example is he giving to his brother ? what are the possible negative or positive things they are learning from him ?
vii) If he doesnt learn how to do things right the first time, shows consideration for others when doing somethings because all he cares about is computer time, his computer time will be limited. If he thinks there are alterative ways to make him improve, then he is free to suggest.
viii) currently, even as i try to limit his computer time, i try to make sure that a comp is available to them so that they can play after their homework. since they always abuse it and it is so difficult to check on them, then i have no choice but to lock up the computer, even if it is during the holidays, unless he can think of something . Ironically, he can only have chance to play if i am on leave and at home (after he has done his homework).
B) Tell me his remaining holiday plan, in terms of covering for the topics he is weak in , in preparation for school re-open. I have no energy, time, to tell him what to do, what he needs to improve on etc. He should take responsibility for his own studies.

1st June - Spotcheck
Agreed that he will mindmap some geography chapters, then will let him play at night
I came back at noon to spotcheck...
Leonard and Ryan were playing with the computer together...before even doing their homework as agreed....
Note
i) Again, breach the trust the momemnt i leave the computer behind. Last night already let him play until midnight , yet he continue to play first thing in the morning when he wake up.
ii) Because he plays, younger brother also play.
iii) Since he cannot be trusted , then should not be leaving comp behind....even if it is holiday...should not be buying new comp as well.

Adam khoo - how much for 10 yrs of your life ?
Hi Foo,
For some strange reason, I was taking a shower when this
philosophical question popped in my head and got me really
thinking. So, I decided to talk about it in this post.
How much would you sell 10 years of your life for? If someone came
and offered you the chance to sell 10 years of your life, what price
would you ask for it.
For example, if you asked for $1 million, you will get the cash
RIGHT NOW and lose 10 years of your life. So, if you were 20 years
old today, you would immediately fast forward to 30. If you were 30
today, you would immediately go to 40. So on and so forth.
What price would you ask for? Think about it. You are not allowed
to say 'not for sale' or 'priceless'. You must think of a price.
When I asked most of my friends, they gave huge amounts of money.
One of my friends said, ' $10 million for 10 years of my life'. So,
if we put so much value on the time of our life, are we treasuring
it?
For example, for my friend, $10 million for 10 years equates to $1
million a year, which equates to $2,739 per day. This equates to
$114 per hour or $1.90 per minute. Do the math for YOUR OWN answer.
I bet it would be pretty high as well.
So, question is, are you living each hour as if it were WORTH $114?
I am not saying that you must spend every hour making money. What I
am saying is whether you are getting the very most out of the
precious minutes and hours of your life?
Are you enjoying the journey of your life, allowing yourself to be
happy or do you keep getting upset over small things? Are you
loving the people around you and allowing them to love you back?
Are you treasuring each hour of your life and living it to the
fullest or constantly procrastinating or doing things later?

Whether you like it or -- you have to SELL! If you think about it,
you are forced to sell the 10 years of your life (and more), whether
you like it or not.
Every day that passes in your life, you have just sold it. You are
never going to get it back. Every hour that passes in your life,
you are never going to get back.
When people attend my 4 day seminars, I tell them that the money
they spent can always be made back. What cannot be made back is the
4 days of their life that they have exchanged for coming. So, they
have to make the very best use of it.
So, before you go about living this new day, think of the price you
have put on it and get your money's worth!
To your success,
Adam

Adam Khoo - Equation of Life
As many of us are feeling the repercussions of one of the worst
recessions in recent history, I would like to share with you my
philosophy on the EQUATION OF LIFE. If you studied Math, Chemistry,
Economics, Accounts or any one of these mathematical topics before,
you would understand that equations have to balance.
For every good, there must be a bad. For every positive, there must
first be a negative. For light to exist, there must first be
darkness. For every market boom, there must first be a crash. For
you to experience happiness, you must first experience sadness. For
you to experience pride and inspiration, you must first have
experienced disappointment and adversity. The greater the initial
failure and disappointment, the sweeter will be the pride of success.
I remember watching the show 'The Pursuit of Happyness' where it
was based on the true story of Chris Gardner who went through a
very difficult period of his life. His wife left him, he was broke,
evicted from his home, slept in public toilets and in homeless
shelter, jailed for unpaid parking tickets and went through a
series of unfortunate incidents.
However, he persevered where ordinary men would have given up.
Finally, when he got selected to become a stockbroker in one of the
most prestigious companies on Wall Street after competing against
20 other candidates, he broke down and shed tears of intense pride
and happiness.
The fighting spirit that the tough situations built within him was
what gave him the drive to build a multi-million dollar stock
broking firm himself. If he did not first go through those
heartbreaking setbacks, he would not have become a millionaire.

For there to be God, there must be the devil (I know some religious
people will want to kill me for saying this). Think about it, if
not for pain, suffering and evil, will people turn to God for
salvation? It is during hard times like these that people pray and
go to places of worship more.
If you watched the matrix, the 'architect' mentions that the
equation has to balance for the matrix to exist. In order for Neo
(the Hero) to exist, there must be his opposite (i.e. Agent Smith
who was the super bad guy).
This applies to every aspect of life. If George Bush did not screw
up the US economy and damage the US's reputation so badly, Barack
Obama would not have become the first African American President
today. If Al Gore would have won, he would probably have done an ok
job and the US would have voted in another white guy.
At the same time, if Al Gore had become the US President 8 years
ago, he would not have made such a positive impact on global
warming issues, won an academy award for his documentary and won
the Nobel Peace Prize. Again, 'failure' led to the the birth of
success.
If I did not get kicked out of Primary school (Primary 3) and get
rejected from 6 secondary schools after my PSLE exams, I would
never have been sent by my parents to learn about NLP. If I did not
learn about NLP at the age of 13, I would not have been able to
inspire thousands of students through my first book 'I Am Gifted,
So Are You!' and achieve all the success that I have today. I would
just have been another average Singaporean stuck in an average job.
So, how does this apply to your life? Well, instead of fearing and
feeling lousy because of the bad stuff that happens in your life,
get optimistic and know that there lies a great opportunity that
always goes along with it.
To your success,
Adam
recessions in recent history, I would like to share with you my
philosophy on the EQUATION OF LIFE.
If he did not first go through those
heartbreaking setbacks, he would not have become a millionaire.

throw his clothes all over - Leonard can you help us ?
6th May
- came back fm school, find that his pants at one side, his shirt at another side...
- ask him to hang up and he say he is going to wear it the next day !!!!
- tell him off and warn him not to repeat...
7th May (day i came back to teach him physics)
- came back, it was the same thing again !!!!
---------------------------------------------------------
why i am pissed off
i) By his action of leaving things everywhere
ii)By his answer..(not apologetic at all..)
----------------------------------------------------------
Leonard, you are a Sec 3 boy and my eldest son. When you dont do your part, your brothers will not do so as well. We also cannot teach them good habits then because of you. That is why you find us coming after you. Your parents are stressed enough.
Can you do your part to help us out ?????? Then at least, we can also teach your brothers to do their part.

Attitude - latest to go down every morning..
He is always the last person to come down...making everyone wait for him and even causing them to be late....
Yet when daryl remind him...he would even raise voice at him, using words like idiot etc....
Poor daryl....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leonard, can you do something about it ? If you need more time, can we wake you up before daryl ? If the children is going to be late because of you, it is not fair to them .
In life, not everyone is going to be like your parents, so tolerant, waiting for you, cant bear to leave you behind etc. If you dont care about everything , no one will because everyone is busy caring for themselves.

Attitude - shown in social studies exam
Last night, leonard was preparing for social study exam by going through the chapters..
Ask him, why he did not mindmap..
Answer was : he has already mindmap , but it is in the computer and he did not print it out !!!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Serious attitude problem...
Why didnt he print out ?
Why then was the mindmap for ?
Why couldnt he print it out as part of exam preparation ??
This would allow him to revise quickly and spend more time somewhere else....
instead , he was spending time reading till 11am on the night and waking up tired
He needs to change his attitude if he is going to do well
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Count your blessings - Adam Khoo
Lots of people I meet complain that they don't have the luck to
achieve the success and wealth that they want. "If only I was
luckier, life would be a lot easier and I would be a lot happier",
they would say. Many people pray of the day they could draw that
lucky ticket and win that million dollar lottery that would change
their life.
What many people do not realize is that the fact that they are
comfortably reading this email means that they have been lucky
enough to be one of the few winners of the biggest lottery of
all... the lottery of life! They were lucky enough to draw the
'right ticket' and be born where they are.
Imagine that 24 hours before you were born, God gave you a bowl of
100 tickets. You had to draw one ticket that would determine your
sex, country of birth, wealth, intelligence etc.. What would have
been your chance to end up where you are now?
Let;s look at the odds. If you were to take the entire earth's
population and shrink it to 100 people (represented by 100
tickets), with all existing human ratios the same, it would be made
up of the following:
49 would be female, 51 would be male
80 would live in substandard housing.
20 in acceptable housing.
67 would be unable to read.
33 would be literate.
1 would have a university education.
99 would not be able to attend university.
50 would be malnourished and 1 dying of starvation.
33 would be without access to a safe water supply.
16 would have access to the Internet.
17 would live in a developed country.
83 live in underdeveloped/developing countries.
If you were given the chance to turn back time and go back to 24
hours before you were born, would you choose to return your current
ticket and re-draw a new ticket from the 100 again? If not, then
consider how lucky you are!

Adam

Physics subject - shows his attitude..
Sec 3 , left him alone to study
Apparently not paying attention on physics
Repeatedly Fail Badly for his physics...
Many tests and exams..
Dont even know what he doesnt know...
Lesson :
i) Dont know, dont follow, dont even ask for 6 whole chapters.
ii)Probably dont pay attention to the extent that he doesnt know what he doesnt know
iii) He should know that when he doesnt know, it becomes harder and harder as you go to later chapters.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1 week before exam, then asked for help...
Within 1 day, read up 6 chapters ..so as to teach him...
However, usual bad attitude
the moment i "spoonfeed him" it becomes like my responsibility
dont want to make time for the chapters
after going through the first 2 chapter, refuse to do the exercise
one week later, forced to do the exercise....
claim that he cant even do the first question
Lessson :
i) he should know how to learn productively
ii) Immediately after learning the theory, it is best that he tries to answer the question. This will reinforce the theory immediately.
iii) Without that, he is likely to forget by the next week and need to start all over again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day before physics exam...
i) I purposedly come back to teach him.....
ii) He say he wants to go and sleep...and it was only 4 pm..
iii) Also realise that he came back at 11am, that he chose to log on to his comp whilst waiting for his lunch to be brought over....(probably to play ???)Mention that he wants to relax first..
iv) Told him that he wants to relax before lunch, during lunch and probably after lunch as well..
Comment
i) he is already so behind time on physic, very weak. As his father, i rush back to help him. Yet he is wasting his time in this manner....
ii) if his attitude is always to look for time to relax, he is not going to do well.
iii) someone with good attitude will find time to study, then try to relax after completing...not find time to relax, and not too sure if he/she will complete.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leonard, you are already in Sec 3. Your parents, esp your mother is terribly stressed out. Do you want to stress us out ? Can you take responsibility for yourself ? ie do your own plan, take care of your own studies ?

Sat - 21st March
Morning
i) Wake up, realise that computer table chin a mess, took a photo. (leonard never clear up before sleeping)
ii) Suppse to go scout at 12pm. Told him to set off at 10.40am, becaues need to fetch ryan, followed by daryl before bringing him to school.
iii) As usual , need to nag out of bed.
iv) Then realise that his scout week card is missing. Blame the maid form misplacing it (mention need to report police if lost) When tell him it i his responsibility, again he raised his voice. I shouted back at him. Finally SF found it, TOld him that change up, if still want to get a lift, to call me. Meanwhile i fetch ryan first.
iv) Came to fetch him. Was already running late. First thingm ask him why wearing slipper. Then he go and change into shoes.
v) Anway, really late now. No choice but to leave him at bus-stop instead.
Note
i) This is a typical day in Leonard's life
ii) Dont clean up after playing comp games at night
iii) Dont plan or prepare for the next day.
iii) Must be pushed to get ready to go off (even although last minute)
iv) Dont keep things properly. WHen lost, blame the maid, as if it is not his fault or duty to keep his own scout card. Does he expect the maid to know the importance ? Why is he relying on someone he claims to be stupid in the first place ?
v) Never concern about making other people late or that his brothers are waiting. Still dilly dally, even as we chase him.
vi) 1.05 pm, called me. Scout is done. But dont have clothes with him for tuition later.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comment
It is up to him whether he wants to improve on things. He can improve by doing some planning, which will require less than 15 mins effort.
i) He could clear up the computer table after using.
ii) Put his card in a proper place or in his scout uniform.
iii) He could have prepare his uniform the night before. Even if he doesnt do that, he can prepare his uniform immediately when he wake up
iv) He could have pack his tuition clothes the night before or when he wake up as well.
The advantage
i) All he needs is 15 minutes to plan for the next day.
ii) He wont be in such a rush, taking so much more time.
iii) He wont get his parents , all upset
iv) He wont be so upset and desparate himself. What if he cant find the card ? Need to report to police etc. Wont that cost him more time ?
v) Less than 15 mins and he wont have to be so messy, casuing trouble and inconvenience for everyone.
vi) Once planning is done, he can rest till last minute before leaving. He will be relaxed. He wont get into trouble. Isnt that 15 minutes worth it ?
vii) That 15 minutes of planning actually gives him so much benefits. Isnt it worth it ? He should learn from his brother Daryl and Ryan, who does that .
viii) This is what planning ahead is about. Think of the next day. Think of what you need to get ready for activities on the next day. ONce it becomes a habbit (like reading papers), it is no longer a pain.

Feb 2009 - review
Study
i) He managed to get a A1 for English...(without tuition)
- Indeed a very pleasant surprise
- SHows that all his english papers reading helped...
ii)He should know that if he wants to improve chinese, he can do the same..
- ie read chinese papers, ie alternate with his english
- do a assessment once a fortnight, then probably wont even need chinese tuition
- imagine how much time he would have saved..
(if he will do the above, then maybe he can reduce chinese tuition to once a fortnight.)
iii) Physics - He failed. TOld him to decide if he wants to take up Physics tuition and drop one of his current tuition.
- It is all up to him, let him decide and inform me..
- Note : Must first know that physics is not difficult. He must change that mindset first.
- Can always come to me any time..
iv) Maths is the other subject that he needs to improve on
- Must practice more
Whatever it is, this is truly his first exam where he did everything by himself with minimal or no supervision from me. Good effort, although as usual, i feel he is capable of doing more.

Sec 3 - become a monitor
Another achievement - He becomes a monitor in his class
From here, i know that even if he is not the best in conduct, surely he must have been behaving himself in school....
As usual, i am sure he can take on the responsibility on top of his current workloads...It is all up to him

How to do well Physics, Chemistry, boilogy, Geography etc..
1) For each chapter
- have a blank sheet whilst listening to teachers teaching on a subject
- Mindmap
- (each chapter should end up being captured in one page or 2)
2) End of chapter
- Go through the mindmap, or draw them on the computer...
- With the mindmap, try working on assessment paper..
- ask if required...
- improve your mindmap if needed
3) Exam time (easy)
- Each exam, just go through this mindmap
- Go through questions which you previously didnt know..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advantage of doing mindmap during lesson time
i) Makes you pay attention.
ii) Improve your mindmap
iii) Know what teacher emphasize on in class
iv) After lesson, go back and draw the mindmap at end of each chapter. You are actually revising automatically.
vi) When you are doing your exercises, you can simply go through the mindmap , before answering. Add to the mindmap only for infomration to qns that you dont know.
v) You have 4 exams a year. It will make is so much easier when revising for exams. You can even put aside your text books if you dont have time.
vi) This will also help you during your Sec 4 and O levels as well.
vii) Imagine how much time you save by doing a mindmap whilst you are in class. No extra time required.
viii) This is the secret as to why good students do well for exams and yet , can have more time to play computers.
ix) not so good students, on the other hand, have their parents chasing them because homework is not done, they are not studying for the exams, alwasy behind time etc. How then can the parents like them have more time to play computer games ?
x) He should already know the benefit. I did mindmap for him when he was in primary shool, and he did it for his secondary geog etc. Allow him to score and do well.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Current
i) He just refuse to do it, saying that nobody does that in class.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parent comment
i) There is nothing embarrassing about doing it. Papa is the only one doing it when i attends classes/lessons as well. Helps me a lot.
ii) If fact, if teacher sees him doing it, they will be impressed.

iii) In life, you must dare to do things if you feel that what you are doing is right and that it will help you .

$50/hr tuition - chinese, english
How lucky are you all ?
How much money have we spend on you all , just on tuition alone , over the years ?
You all need not worry at all about money. All you need to do is to try your best in your study. All you need is to ask . As far as studies are concern, you will get all the help, be it money to employ tuition teachers or your parents time.
Auntie Peck Fern : Her brother dont even earn $50 a day, how to employ tuition teacher at $50 an hour for her nephew ?
Comment
i) Leonard, when i was young, i was in the same situation. PoPo cannot afford tuition teacher. I want to improve, but didnt know how to improve English. I try reading reader digest, reading dictionary. Now you & your brothers can have the best. So treasure it.
ii) If you dont work hard, in future, you will be like Auntie Peck Fern's brother. You wont be able to teach your childre. Neither can you afford a $50/hour tution for them.

Homework & computer games
Last night(Sat), he called me over phone to ask permission to play.
I told him NO because he had already been given time on Friday. He keep saying he has no homework, everything is done etc, but i insist he do some work . As usual, raise his voice and behave in a rude manner.
Finally he give up. End of the night, he showed me his biology paper. Understand that the homework was given to him during tuition time (just that afternoon)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
He can insist that he doesnt have homework when it was given just in the afternoon ?
What does this tell about how organise he is ?
So much protest about doing homework assigned. Do you think he will do more , read ahead, mindmap etc of his own accord ?
If we reverse role, will he trust someone who behaves in such a manner ?
Should he blame his parents for being naggy ?
Does he think we really have nothing better to do than to nag at him ?

Last sight of his grandmother
His grandmother was passing away..
We just miss her by a split second for a variety of reason. I was told that his grandmother was waiting to get a glimpse of her before leaving. Imagine letting a dying old woman waiting for us, enduring the pain whilst waiting....
lesson :
In life, you never know when you are missing something important which you might regret your whole life..
You need not stress yourself unncessarily, but for important things, there is a need to have a sense of urgency, to be punctual.

Using Chopsticks - picking his grandmother bones
Can see that he has difficulty using chopsticks whilst all are watching.
Had asked him to learn before , but he simply ignore saying that he is fine without having to learn about it..
Guess this is life. You never know when you will be tested on a particular skill. Hence in life, you should learn as much as possible. Rather than be tested.
Dont want to nag him, but he should decide if he wants to continue this attitude in life or to have a learning attitude (ie keep learning),so that he will not be embarrass in future.

OBS cancelled (Life lessons)
He was supposed to go for OBS, but because maternal grandmother passed away, he had to cancel. He had paid $400 already.
I wrote a letter for him, requesting teacher to refund the money.
He basically tells the teacher he is not going OBS without showing the letter. Then he tells me that cannot claim the money.
He is probably shy to show letter demanding money return from teacher .
He must understand that there is nothing wrong with about asking what is his. Adults do it all the time.
i) He must know that $400 is a lot of money to a lot of other people.
ii) He must learn to ask what is his ?
iii) After asking, if the teacher say cannot, it is another story altogether. He has at least done his part. In life, he must learn that you need to ask in order to have a chance of getting at something. Nothing shy about it at all.
iv) In fact, if he dont ask, and dont mention why he is skipping OBS, teacher would be thinking negatively of him. They might think that he is irresponsible for skipping OBS at last minute without informing.
(This is similar to me when i skip NCC Adventure course without telling the real reasons. End up in principle office and was demoted for 3 months.)
Dont want to nag him, but this is a $400 lesson to think over.

Leonard 2009 Review/Feedback
Academic
1) He is now in the best class in his school.
ECA
i) He is in scouts and golf, which keeps him active and busy. although that puts demands on this time.
Comment
i) The above was done without any tuition except for english & chinese.
ii) He still did ok for his science, maths
Overall
i) Shows that he can do well if he wants to .
Biggest problem
I) His attitude towards study.
2) Look at this blog which shows it .
i) Do the minimal, shortest review article
ii) Study. Tough maths question. He protest even as i force him to know how to
do instead of being thankful.
iii) Blog - not conscientiously done.
3) If he can change his attitude, he will do well , and he will also have more time to play and probably find studying less tedious.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A) He can do without tuition so long as he is conscientious.
After each chapter :
i) Do mindmap / Do exercises
ii) Dare to ask questions, what he doesnt know.
B) Mindmap
i) Can be done whilst teacher is teaching in class.
ii) Will make it easy for him to revise and at end of chapter, can use it to answer assessment questions.
This will be the most effective for learning his study subjects ie science.
C) When i teach him, all i did was :
i) Let him do assessment to find out what he doesnt know (isnt that a waste of time if he can tell me instead, or refer me to questions he cant answer in class ?)
ii) Teach him and make sure he knows. depend on subject, in some cases, ask him to do mindmap, whilst for others , got him to do assessment books.
D) He needs to think about it. Use his knowledge learn in Adam Khoo's class to improve.

leonard - week 1 2009
Thursday night
i) Raise voice, upset over being asked to play on Saturday instead of friday, claiming that he will be too tired to play.
2) Tell mummy simply that he doesnt want to do chinese tuition homework when REmIndEd.
Past few nights, has been saying tired and went to sleep after barely doing any work.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Question :
i) If he is too tired to play, wont he be too tired to study on Saturday ?
ii) If he goes to sleep on weekdays, then play on friday. Saturday night also resting. He is left with Sunday to study.
iii) If cant do tuition homework, then why bother about having tuition.
ii) He needs to put up a plan which includes :
- time slots reserved for ECA activities
- time slots reserve for tuition
- time slots reserved for school and tuition homework.
- time slots reserveed for subjects without tuition ie physics.
- shows that he has discipline to stick with it

Leonard - 2009 Jan
1) Allocated a room for each of them to take care of. Leonard is suppose to tidy up the study room before he goes to bed. His brothers are pointing to him . His mother is saying that we should not have a maid, else Leonard will continue to be so reliant on not do anything. Will he cause the whole arrangment to fall apart again ?
2) Never write his blog consistently, highlighting how he has spent his time and for 5 articles he has read and comments. ( quite alright in this case as he has now inculate the habbit of reading papers every day.)
3) Still haven't get him to plan. Put forth his 2009 resolution.
