New law nabs its first suspect

One month after a new law targeting the sale of stolen goods came into effect, a man allegedly trying to steal 700kg of metal to a scrap metal dealer has been caught in the net. The police were able to stop the activities of a 39-year-old suspect. The man was caught on Wednesday weighing six pieces of reinforced metal bars at the back of his lorry at Woodlands industrial park.

HDB gave woman $18,000 in error......

Former hawker Mdm lee ah muey,75, wishes she could turn back time and perhaps reverse a decision that has led to an $18,000 headache. Four years ago, she gave up her stall selling cloths at Hougang Ave 1 hawker. Mdm Lee surrendered her stall in October 2003, in return of $18,000 compensation from the HDB. Then last September, an officer from the NEA came knocking. It cited a clause in the agreement Mdm Lee had signed in 1993 that she would not be entitled to any compensation for the stall.
