Indonesia thanks Singapore for help in rebuilding Aceh
Indonesian president express his gratitude to Singapore for helping to rebuild Aceh, which was devastated by the tsunami in 2004, when he met foreign minister George Yeo. After officiating at the opening of a boarding school,which was built by contribution from Singapore.
Honda plans system or drives to make hydrogen at home for fuel-cell cars
Honda, aim to start mass production of fuel-cells car by about 2015, is developing a system using solar energy for drivers to make hydrogen at home to fuel such vehicles.Individual production of hydrogen would let people refuel their cars without for a network of stations to be set up.Vehicle manufactures,under pressure, are seeking alternatives to oil as prices for the commodity approach US$100 a barrel.
Proverty drives 11-year-old to kill herself
An 11-year-old girl hanged herself in Philippines last week after leaving a letter and diary depicting a life in rampant poverty.Nearly 14 per cent of the 87 million live on less that $1.45 a day. Her only wish was to be able to finish studying and buy a bicycle..Reports said that the night before she killed herself, she had asked her father for 100 pesos($3.30) for a school project,but he did not have any money.
After trial treatment, this woman beat the odds of final-stage colon cancer
In the final stage of cancer,Madam Phua Ah Moey would have just nine to twelve months to live.However till today 2 years later , she is still living, thanks to a new treatment that promises a lifeline with little hope. Since going for the new treatment her tumour have shrunk to half it size. The 20-patient trial saw 35 percent of the patients responding to the treatment, with the tumour shrinking or the progress of the cancer halted. Colorectal cancer is the most common cancer in Singapore with more than 1,000 cases diagnosed each year.
