Mr Ong Chee Siang was just 10 years old when he was recurited into a gang.By 14, he was sporting muti-coloured hair,carrying a parang as a wepon and stealing parts from stolen cars.One day in school, he throwed a projectile across the classroom which struck his 20-yers-old relief teacher which earned him a public caning.
And til today he remain thankful that he was spared expulsion by Ms Paramita Bandara, then the school principal.
Looking at Mr Ong today-he is currently pursuing a degree course at the Nanyang Technological University-you would hardly imagine he once presided over a gang with 50 members.
