Another boxing day tragedy

Exactly three years to the day the Asian tsunami took about 168,000 lives in Indonesia, the country was hit by another calamity on Boxing Day yesterday, with dozens killed in landslides triggered by torrential rains. Landslide hit villagers in the densely populated Karaganyar and Wonogirl district in Central Java, with floods also swelling in several areas. Volunteer dug desperately with their bare hands, hoping to find the survivors while they waited for heavy equipment to arrive. At least 42 had been confirmed dead and scores missing in centre Java, while the number of casualties expected to rise.
